Well it's definitely been much too long since my last post. I've been studying Book Arts at Oregon College of Art & Craft this past semester and so I've been pretty busy making and crafting things. Unfortunately I don't have a camera...Well I did bring my digital camera but somehow left my charger for it in California. Anyway, here's a painting I've been working on for my Design 2D class final next week:

Oxbow Final Project

This was my final project at Oxbow. It was a sort of memory house - a place for nostalgia and remembering, a place to piece histories together. It was cozy and warm inside and resembled a little cottage from the outside. I projected home movies through a hole in the roof onto an inside wall. Among this footage were clips from my own childhood in California, as well as scenes from before my mother was born in New York.

The little memory house was recycled after the final show. It didn't seem right to carry it with me, I needed to leave it behind.

finally

My little papercut web is now hanging in the window with the rest of the Project-X show. I took some pictures of it hanging and the reflections of light on my skin and shirt so you can see the effect I had been working towards. I'm pretty pleased with how it looks.

Thursday pt. 2

Almost forgot! I made a very necessary trip to Blick yesterday to get some also very necessary supplies for arts and crafts making! Pattiann let me borrow her Olfa knife for paper cuts, and I can't use anything else now, but it was only $7 so that's exciting. More papercuts to come!

Thursday

Spring Break means I am reunited with my baby owl cat, Eliza (named after Eliza Thornberry)! She's a darling. I was also finally able to do some shopping this week. I got the straw cloche you see in this photo - although I was looking at the tag and it said 100% paper, which is interesting. It said not to get it wet. So I suppose I shouldn't wear it to row boats or to the beach - bummer! It's the perfect hat for those sorts of things!
Anyhow, I also got some sweet brown vintage shorts, a long high waisted blue skirt, a lovely button back blouse, a gingham shirt dress, some new t-strap flats, and finally! pants! The pants are from Slash - on College near Ashby - the best place to get new jeans, in my opinion. I got the shoes and the hat at Urban, guiltily. I found the blouse and dress at Mercy Vintage on Piedmont Ave - a wonderful store that moved from San Pablo recently and changed their name. I would buy so much more from them if I had the monies. Lastly, the skirt and shorts were found at Pretty Penny , another of my favorite vintage shops in the bay area. If you haven't been to the bay, and you like to shop (especially vintage), you should check those places out for sure. I didn't post pictures of all of the clothes because it was taking much too long and I should do other things right now.

home for spring break

I'm back in Oakland for spring break until Sunday. I went shopping with Livers and Myenety (and Carter, Zoƫ, etc) yesterday - Livia and Myene got these Moon Patrol sunglasses, pretty badass if you ask me.

papercuts

I finished the project on Friday but this is a picture from before that. I'll have to take pictures of the papercuts when I hang them in the window.

OxRainbow

We came outside to walk to the lecture last Tuesday evening and there was a huge double rainbow! Lovely!

Monday

I've sewn ten of the paper-cuts together (actually eleven now, but this only shows ten) and I have until Friday to finish the project. I think I'm almost done but I'm not sure if I want to add more squares on. I plan on hanging it in the window where the sun is strongest but I'm a bit concerned about if the light will damage my paper. We'll see.

MILK

I went to Whole Foods today and got some moaaaarrr mellkkk! Hooray! Now I have three bottles to return to the market to get $1.50 for each bottle (as they return the bottles to Straus, which is also nice) - probably just enough to buy another bottle. Aaaand I didn't drop my spoon in the milk like last time! I also got those chocolate cat cookies and cheese crunchies and goat cheese. I'm pretty excited. Now back to those papercuts.

for my mom

I made this book/journal for my mom for her 50th birthday (which was yesterday) and I gave it to her and then I realized this was the only picture I had taken of it - with PhotoBooth, oh well. I found some nice floral paper for the cover and I learned the coptic stitch! I'd say it turned out pretty nice.

the beginning

These paper cuts are for Project X at Oxbow. I'm hoping to hang them in a sort of web in the sunlight in a window so that the light can reflect through the slits onto the floor or onto skin passing by. I have ten of them now but I think I need to make quite a few more. I only have until next Friday to finish the entire project so hopefully I can get it all together by then.
