unforgettable

I finally figured out how to upload audio here.
So I made a SoundCloud.
If you click the the link it should take you there.
I decided to start archiving all these
"voice memos" I have taken on my phone
over the years, because they're really rad,
and I want to archive them and collect them
in a different way. So here is the first one:

In the spring of 2010 I was on a flight from
Los Angeles to Chicago with my mother.
It was cheaper for us to sit in different parts
of the plane, so I was alone when I recorded this.
Just before we landed, the flight attendant went on the
loudspeaker and sang us Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable"
It was magic.
And now you can hear it.
(more to come!)

4x5 preview

Here's a little preview of a 4x5 project I'm working on using chromes:

I'm kind of into the circular format. It'll be printed at about 30x40 inches so we'll see.
I'm thinking either circle or square format - not really feeling
the rectangular 4x5 format right now.

Thinking about summer, California, warms and cools, darkness, the ocean -
always.

Archiving

Thinking a lot about archives and collections...
Recently my family were looking through some old boxes as we were cleaning out a family house. We found a bunch of old negatives and photographs. I was particularly interested in the ones where my aunt and grandma could not identify who was in the photograph, or they were people they barely remembered. There were also negatives and photographs from the process of building that house and the one next door. My great grandfather built the two houses and my dad lives in the upstairs apartment of one of them. I'm working on scanning them and hopefully I will get around to editing them all sometime too.
Anyway, archives, collections...

some recent photo projects

The most recent of recent photo projects - this is my "altar for boyfriends" - I'm still trying to figure out what I really mean by that, anyhow it was made with a lovely 4x5 camera and a lot of patience, it was then printed quite large, 26x40. I'll try to post an image of the work once I hang it. I feel like it looks a lot better in person.

This was my "self portrait with cat" project, somewhat inspired by Kiki Smith's Pieta and my urge to make some self portraits, and also by my adoration for my cat, Eliza Thornberry. I used my good friend Nadinne's lovely Hasselblad and a lot of kitty treats.
